Cruising with Shallotte River Sail Power Squadron

2018 Conway Cruise

Conway Overnight Cruise – 22-23 May 2018

Cruise Captain:  Jim Hutchison

We will meet at and depart from Ocean Isle Bridge at 0900h unless your boat is departing along the ICW west/south of Ocean Isle Bridge, in which case we will meet your boat on the ICW at your departure location.

We will cruise together to Bucksport Marina where we will have lunch. Bucksport Marina has Ethanol-Free Gasoline, Regular Unleaded Gasoline and Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel available. Bucksport Marina has been notified that we will dock 4-6 boats. The number of boats will be updated on 14 May. For further information on Bucksport Marina, call 1 (843) 397-5566, or see

Lunch at Captain Buck’s Port Tiki Bar has been arranged with Rich Huggins, Manager. This is where we had lunch last year. For more information on Captain Buck’s Port Tiki Bar, call (843) 397-6300, or see their facebook page,

From Bucksport, we will cruise on the Waccamaw River to The Cypress Inn in Conway, SC. There is a marina directly behind The Cypress Inn. If needed, there is additional docking at another marina about 100 yards away. Fuel is also available at that marina. Wine, soft drinks, cheese and crackers are available all-day at The Cypress Inn. A full breakfast will be served on Wednesday morning. For those driving, The Cypress Inn is at 16 Elm Street, Conway SC 29526. Tel: 843-248-8199

Additional lodging is available 20-25 minutes away from The Cypress Inn by car. The Cypress Inn recommends the Hampton Inn at 4551 Highway 501, Myrtle Beach, SC, 29579.

Dinner reservations have been made for 6:30pm at Rivertown Bistro in Conway, SC. We will dine in the Private Dining Room on the 2nd floor, as we did last year. The menu changes seasonally. For a peek at the current menu, see their Facebook site

For those who drive to Conway and meet the group for dinner, the Rivertown Bistro is at 1111 3rd Ave, Conway, SC 29526. For those who prefer lighter or more casual dining, Bonfire is right on the Waccamaw River within walking distance of the Cypress Inn. For more information, see

We will depart from the Cypress Inn after breakfast on Wednesday, May 23rd. I recommend we cruise as a group until we arrive at the ICW. Last year, some stopped along the ICW for lunch while others cruised directly home. Please, do as you wish and make your own arrangements with fellow cruise participants.
